Allen Corson Cowperthwaite 1848 - 1926

Allen Corson Cowperthwaite 1848 - 1926 was the author of the Text Book of Materia Medica and Therapeutics, Disorders of Menstruation, A Textbook of Gynaecology, Characteristics of homeopathic medicines and many others.

President of the American Institute of Homeopathy in 1888, Cowperthwaite taught at the Hahnemann Medical College in Chicago, and was Professor of Materia Medica and the Diseases of Women at the Homeopathic Medical Department at the State University of Iowa, Professor of Materia Medica, Pharmacology, and Clinical Medicine in the University of Michigan and Chairman of the Bureaux of Materia Medica and Provings of the American Institute of Homeopathy, of the Western Academy of Homœopathy, of the Northwestern Academy of Medicine, and of The Hahnemann Medical Association of Iowa. As a Doctor of Law he made a significant contribution to homeopathy’s position in fundamental medico-legal issues.

Cowperthwaite was was born at Cape May, New Jersey and known throughout America as one of the most faithful and efficient medical college organizers. He was also:

known throughout America as a highly skilled practitioner and lecturer of Homeopathic subjects. He was taught by Constantine Hering and received his degree in 1869.

His many accomplishments include: - Organiser of the Nebraska State Homœopathic Medical Society, Chair of Materia Medica and also the Office of Dean for the State University of Iowa, Professor of Materia Medica and Therapeutics for the Chicago Homœopathic Medical College, as well as holding responsible positions in various Homeopathic organisations and being the author of several books that have come to be considered “standards”.

This particular book is a detailed Materia Medica of about 300 remedies giving us a general analysis, the characteristic symptoms for each part of the body, and the therapeutic indications for each of them.

Cowperthwaite was also a collaborator in the Cyclopaedia of Drug Pathogenesy of Richard Hughes and Jabez Philander Dake.
