Tomas Pablo Paschero 1904 - 1986

Tomas Pablo Paschero 1904 - 1986 MD RSHom was an Argentinian orthodox physician who converted to homeopathy to become the founder of the Asociacion Medica Homeopatica Argentina in 1933, and the Escuela Medica Homeopatica Argentina in 1972, and the President of the International Homeopathic Medical League LIGA in 1973.

Paschero was an innovator in environmental miasmatic theory.

Paschero was a student of William Griggs, Arthur Hill Grimmer, Eugene Underhill and Julia Minerva Green. Paschero taught Marcelo Eugenio Candegabe, and he was a colleague of Eugenio Federico Candegabe, Alfonso Masi Elizalde, Francisco Xavier Eizayaga, Proceso Sanchez Ortega, and many others.

We only have three of these suns, Tomas Paschero of Argentina, Pierre Schmidt of Switzerland and Proceso Sanchez Ortega of Mexico.

Paschero’s father, a butcher by trade, wanted his son to do the same, but fortunately for homeopathy he did not, deciding to study medicine instead. He converted to homeopathy after witnessing the cure of an obstinate case of eczema and later studied with the Kentian homeopaths William Griggs, Eugene Underhill, and Julia Minerva Green, eventually becoming a disciple of Arthur Hill Grimmer.

Paschero established the Asociacion Medica Homeopatica Argentina in 1933, founded the Escuela Medica Homeopatica in 1972, and was President of the LIGA in 1973. He was truly a potent beacon spreading the luminescence of homeopathy far and wide among our Latin American neighbors.

Tomas Pablo Paschero was born in Buenos Aires in 1904, the son of an immigrant Italian cattle slaughterer and an Argentinian mother.

He disobeyed his father’s wish that he should run the family butcher’s shop and left to study medicine at the University of Buenos Aires, supporting himself through his studies.

He first encountered homeopathy while working as an obstetrician, seeing an apparently intractable case of eczema completely resolved by it.

In 1934 he travelled to the United States on an extensive research trip, working with Dr William Griggs, Dr Eugene Underhill and Dr Julia M. Green. He was then accepted as a disciple by Arthur Hill Grimmer, with whom he formed a close personal and professional relationship.

Marcelo Eugenio Candegabe explains: ”Paschero was different. He was the early rain in my spirit, who nourished me and nourishes me through time.

“It is impossible to describe the sensation of being at his side, to those who did not know him. He exuded an unusual brightness. He always offered himself, so his disciples felt important. He had the virtue to encourage the search for personal realization, as the most transcendent aim of the human being.

“Paschero’s homily was his constant declaration that the human should reach the plenitude of life as the real purpose of existence, and that this plenitude is only reached if the inner will drives us towards an altruistic life where “to give” is the real reason for living. He was so, in everyday life, in every small act, and in his dedication to others.

“For Paschero the realization of life is made in the first step with the closest human. The fellow man is the one chosen to go towards the absolute, the superior Mind or God. In this way he understood homeopathy as the only medicine which could collaborate in this path towards the personal realization, “liberating” the human from his miasmatic hindrances, so that he can reach the highest purpose of existence, if he wants, as postulated by Samuel Hahnemann in §9 of the Organon of the Medical Art…” “I remember Paschero saying: “Nobody can expect to change something in the world if he does not change himself first”.

Eugenio Federico Candegabe explains: “[It is difficult for me to speak about Dr. Paschero, in whom the affection, gratitude and admiration conjoin in one person, and with whom I maintained an incomparable friendship from the time since I started as a student at the AMHA in 1953 until his death in

“I confess that I felt confounded when I began the study of the Materia Medica because all the remedies seemed to be similar. I could not find a description of symptoms in the classical books which allowed me to find a coherence and to distinguish them clearly.

“Finally I found the solution for the problem when I read the writings of Dr. Paschero about the Materia Medica, published in the journal of the school in 1955: The symptomatology has to reflect the suffering of the human being, a certain way to pass through life, which makes the actuality coherent with his history and is presented until his future. It is about comprehending, rather than just memorizing Materia Medica.

“His entire work was the faithful reflection of his life as a physician, teacher and human being. On Saturday morning between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. he gave his master classes in the first consultation with a patient, usually presented by some of the teachers of the school. I remember that I recently gave a class between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., making comments about the clinical case of the previous week.

“With the repertory in hand I analyzed the symptoms and compared the chosen remedy with others which emerged from repertorization, and the reason for its choice, because sometimes all the chosen symptoms appear in several remedies. In this way I learned by teaching that the isolated symptoms are of no value, if they are not accompanied by sense, intentionality and purpose which define them.

“He was for me the teacher of my choice and lead my first 30 years of homeopathy until his death… Paschero let us students look for our own answers, listening to us and respecting our opinions, which were sometimes opposite. He ensured that the discussion took course in pleasant ways and turned into a dialogue where everybody contributed a particle of his truth in search of the essential truth.

“His final conclusion was really always more than a mandate “of someone who knows more”, and was “like a fresh breeze”, giving us his peace and security amid all the resentment which sometimes came up in our hot and passionate discussions”.
